[Smyth to Council.]

Chester Town May the 23d 1776.
Gentlemen. Since my return home I have agreed with Robert Reed of this place blacksmith for 10 musketts for acct of the Province at 85/ each they are all finished and only wait your Determination to confirm my Contract before they are delivered, they are strong good Musketts with Bayonets 17 inches long steel ramrods & double Bridle Locks and have been all proved. If you should think fitt to confirm what I have done herein please to send the money by the first opportunity as the Smith wants it to enable him to go on with his Business. The Committee of Observation for this County have in pursuance of your Request of the 14th instant hired 4 waggons to proceed to Sussex County for the province powder &c which the Council has directed to be brought here and will want money sent them for the Payment of the Waggon hire which you will please to send by the first Oppertunity the Committee have agreed to pay the Waggoners 22/6 p day each, as soon as the powder arrives here the Committee will acquaint your honors thereof be pleased to return me your answer hereto by the first oppertunity. I am with the most perfect Esteem.
